Our zebra mussel filter systems were independently tested in the 1990s by Aquatic Sciences Inc. (now ASI Group Ltd.) in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, and found to be highly effective in keeping zebra mussels out of the water system. Here are a few test results:
Our systems contain two 20-micron (0.0008 inches) paper composite filters (200 square feet of surface area to filter out the mussels and silt). For comparison, a human hair is 200 microns (0.0079 inches), veligers are 70 microns (0.0027 inches), and red blood cells are 10 microns (0.0004 inches).
There's a metallic fabric that covers the intake and the filters. The fabric on the intake keeps zebra mussels from attaching and blocking it. The chemical composition emitted over the filters also kills veligers and larvae.
Our systems have no moving parts to wear out or fail. The system will not affect your pump's ability to deliver the needed water. Our filter is designed to allow water movement to a maximum of 140 gallons per minute to be drawn through two 100-square-foot filters. The larger water intake area of the system slows down the external flow of water to cause the intake water supply to be less attractive to zebra mussels.
Our systems are installed on the end of the water intake line to protect the rest of your water pipes and your water pump.

Order NowDepending on water usage and clarity, it lasts approximately 2 to 3 years. Water can flow at a maximum of 140 gallons per minute (70 gallons per filter). A 6-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC pipe protects the filters, the metallic fabric, and the related hardware. When the filters need to be replaced, there are 2 options:

Order NowThis filter is similar to the Model 5100L and offers the same zebra mussel protection but has a 2-inch water connection capable of a higher rate of water flow for large volume use for homes or businesses. This is often useful in conjunction with shore wells.

Order NowA zebra mussel filter system must be regularly inspected. Failure to inspect and correct obvious changes in pump recovery can cause pump failure. Currently, no system can avoid the infiltration of some silt that may eventually obstruct water flow.
